FAQ

How long has Dr. Bakshiyev been in practice?

Dr. Bakshiyev has been practicing pediatrics for 28 years.  In 1998 she opened her private solo practice “Academy Pediatrics, P.A.” and has worked there ever since.

What are your office hours?

We are open 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday. Two nights- Monday and Thursday we stay late to accommodate working parents.

What happens if I have a question about my child when the office is already closed?

After hours our office phone is transferred to the answering services. If your question is urgent you will talk to the operator and she will pass the message to the doctor. The doctor will answer you within 15 minutes. If you didn’t receive a call after 15- 30 minutes, please call back.

If your question is not urgent, e.g. forms, referrals, not urgent prescriptions refills, leave the message and we will retrieve it the next business day.

In case of true medical emergency call 911.

This is a solo practice. What happens if the doctor is sick or on vacation?

Don’t worry, you will not be left unattended. Dr. Bakshiyev works together with other practitioners in the area and they co-cover.  Usually there will be a covering pediatrician in the office as well. We are trying to maintain all our regular hours during that time. Occasionally your child might be seen at the covering pediatrician’s office.

I can’t decide if I want to choose a solo practice or a big group for my children. What are advantages and disadvantages of a small practice?

There are many advantages for the solo set up. First and most of all you and your child will get very personal care by the same physician. Your family will be our family. We usually know our patients, their parents and grandparents by their first names. You won’t have to explain every time to a different physician all the small details about your child.  Of course solo practice cannot be open 24/7, though a lot of big practices are not providing those amount of hours.  And on the rare occasions your child might be seen by the covering physician.

When will the doctor see my newborn baby?

If you delivering at Centra State Medical Center Dr. Bakshiyev will see your baby within 24 hours after birth. She will visit your baby daily until discharge. If you are giving birth at the other local hospitals your baby will be seen by the hopspitalist or neonatologist.

How soon should I make an appointment for my newborn after the hospital discharge?

Usually we would like to see your baby in two to three days after the hospital discharge. Sometimes we have to see the newborn even sooner.

How often do I have to bring the baby for well visits?

AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommends health maintenance visits for the first year of life at 2 wks, 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12 months of age.

When do you start vaccinations?

The first vaccine -Hepatitis B- is usually given shortly after birth. The rest of the vaccine scheduling can be checked on CDC website. The link is provided for you on our site in “Useful Links” category.
